A report released by the US Commerce Department (Falling Through the Net) reported that there is “evidence of a persisting digital divide between the information rich and the information poor, a gap that is widening over time. The Urban League Community Technology Center was erected in 2002 to address this gap by providing computer training to those in need as well as provide access to computer software and the Internet.
Tubby’s Klubhouse
The League is proud to operate one of five program offered in Lexington. The program teaches middle school youth about the components of a computer, its hardware, and teaches middle school students about current Microsoft programs. To date more than 1000 youth have participated in the program in Fayette County.

Senior Technology Skills
The Technology Center also coordinates small classes for seniors to become comfortable using computers. The Urban League provides this service because we realize that in order to make an impact in a seniors economic earning potential, we must prepare them for today’s job market. A large quantity of the positions that seniors are able to fill often come with computer-oriented responsibilities. To ensure they are prepared, the League provides smaller computer training classes that move at the pace of its class members.
Seniors learn to how to access the Internet. write letters, develop their resume’, set up and utilize an email account, and how to create and use spreadsheets.
